Hi mate

I have a 115 ficht motor , think its a 1999 or a 2000 model
alarm comes on intermittently.
last guys who checked it said it was a high voltage alarm.
sounder say 14.5v when on the plane but goes up to 16 v now and again

Could this be battery issues ? (ive had a second house battery fitted in last 6 months)

Or a very scary and expensive computer replacement..?

Yeah it was with my 150 it would run at 14.4v then jump to 17.5-18 then back again. Fix it asap as ya battery wont like being overcharged. If its a similar setup to a merc it should only cost a couple hundred to sort.

go over all of your battery cables carefully, check soldered lugs, bolted connections, just to make sure nothing is loose..

Volt metre that im putting on battery is saying 15-16 + volts and alarm still going off.bugger....
on the bigger deep cell battery it dosnt charge as high but guesing its eating up sum of the volts untill it charges up

What is the exact model - i.e. - E115FPXEEC etc. Parts might not be so bad (under $1500) if it is a 99 model.

Yes Tagit, if it is a 1999 model the rectifier/regulator is a separate part, the 2000 model ram injection had this incorporated into the computer.

At $4500 it isn't worth doing the repair. There are however a bunch of used ECM's around for a lot less $'s and it may be worth taking a punt on one of those.

Another possible option is to get someone to adapt a rectifier to the engine. May be quite a simple thing depending on a few variables.

And another option is to contact these guys - http://www.dfitechnologies.com/. Maybe this is your best option, but I have no idea about their pricing.

My concern would be with the voltage going too high and frying the ECM and every other electronic device onboard. It shouldn't be difficult to fit an aftermarket voltage regulator but there may be dificulties with wiring it into the ECM so it only sees regulated voltage. I know nothing about these motors so can't comment on how practical that solution is.

Doesn't a dud battery also have the same effect? if one battery is doing it and no the other then perhaps it could be worth looking at ?>

Yes that what I thought it may be.but if volt metre at battery terminals is reaching 14-16 volts not sure battery would be a factor in this???

At the end of the day the ECM will be bunch of circuit board and peripheral components.  If you can source suitably specified parts there is no reason why an electronics expert couldn't replace any part that doesn't have a memory function.  Even on a printed circuit board.
