I am going to buy a brand new 4.95 Surtees and would very much like members comments regarding the powering of it with a 60hp 4 stroke or are they so close now?

Cheers in advance Colin

Most of its use will be fishing with very occasional trout trolling / fishing. No water sport.

What area do you live in? - a good dealer who will support you well is just as important as what you buy IMO.
Good fishing trip nothing breaks, great trip catch fish.

I have a 4.85 with a suzuki 60hp. Owned for 2 years, done 300hrs. Haven't had a single problem and really like the motor. I added a permatrim to mine, if I had the extra money I would get the 70Hp.

my one year old 50hp suzuki 4 stroke has been awesome on the F14. plenty of power and very smooth into reverse which is good for drift fishing. no water ingress into the motor even after heavy backing up in the the slop. however, i still don't like the 'ringing' noise at 1500rpm, something to do with shims, or lack of them apparently. the pinion gear rides up and makes the noise only in fwd gearConfused next time might go for Honda 50 if it goes into reverse nicely.
so for me, its Suzuki or Honda.

personally, I wouldn't have a problem putting any of the above mentioned 60s on a boat, All start first up, all reliable, all cheap to run. Its up to your brand preference.

CeeBee sounds like you should check out who sells motors in Tauranga (and buy from them if possible) and has a good reputation as they would be your service agent - any forum members able to offer feedback on Suzuki/Yamaha/Mercury dealers down there?
