Fishing ReportsThe Store Report for Sept 19-25
Good morning, well it looks as if we might be lucky enough to be able to enjoy another fine weekend without rain and for all those that want to ski and/or fish, those are good options.
We have received a little more rain over the week , although thankfully rivers have dropped away and are now in very good condition. All the rainfall that we have had over recent weeks has in many cases reformed lots of the tributaries and every time we’ve taken to the water we have found that the lies and the rivers have changed quite significantly.
The rivers have all still got what you would call reasonable water levels, in fact quite a lot more water than is normal, but they are still very fishable and over time as they recede further the lies and holding water will become even more obvious.
For those that have fished this week there have been patches of really good fishing and some reasonable fish taken as well which is a positive sign for us all. We have been certainly had a lot of talk about the size and the numbers of fish present. I am sure that we have a lot of fish in the fishery maybe they are smaller but that is often a cyclic thing caused by lack of rain over a few seasons. That means that most of the fish survive and then there’s lower food concentrations due to high lake levels and lots of fish.
The next few days should see some excellent conditions and some real movement of fish as the rivers drop away to normal flows and anglers are able to determine where the fish are holding.
Feel free to call anytime as its easy to give you some tips and an update as to what is actually happening. The big river the Tongariro has fished with patchy spots this week, maybe due to the level which is higher than normal but still very fishable. Many of the fish are in the shallow, fast water so don’t be too hasty to walk on top of them!
Take care on the water and feel free to call 073868953 anytime
cheers
