Fishing Reports

The Store report for July 12-15

Good morning, we have had a huge volume of water with over 60mm falling here at The Store on Saturday alone, so all the rivers at this stage are in huge flood but are dropping quickly.

The volume of water that we have received has been enormous and there will have to have been some significant changes on all rivers as a result.

Those that were around yesterday were surprised by the volume and the quickness of the rise of the rivers, which came up with a woosh and will drop away quietly as the weather allows.

Most anglers will be wanting to know when the rivers will fish, and some will say well go for it, but generally the rivers are coloured, high and raging which means if you're a fish you wouldn't be too keen to be anywhere near the river at present!

Generally it will take at least another day for the Tongariro to drop away to what I consider a comfortable height and the weather indicates a sunny week so that is a great positive.

The smaller tributaries have had huge volumes of water and will take a little longer, with great amounts of debris having pulsed through the river over the past 24 hours as well.

My feeling it that there will be some significant changes which will be great for anglers and the fish will move when  they are ready.

It will take some time as the volume, sediment in the river systems at present is saturated and will take time to drop away.  By the earlier part of the new week we should be able to fish the lower sections and earlier maybe to a wet line.

Besst to phone for a report first if you need to know whats happening or if you require accommodation, feel free to call pete and stella 073868953 or e-mail peteandstella@thestore.co.nz
