at the moment our snapper fishery is pretty good but we have quite a few idiots taking more fish than they are suppose to, like some got caught the other day with over a 100 and that is what gets up my goat, plus the odd com has been caught dumping fish which is just ridicules as well....
i like what someone was saying the other day about crushing the offenders boat/vehicle that was used to do the poaching, is this something you guys are doing?????

I hope our GOVT will never achieve what Aus govt has in regards to licensing.
Although a few things such as limiting the catch during spawning is something worth considering for the future...but then our fisheries is not about the future its all about a quick $.

Catch what you bloody hell want to catch, as long as your within your legal limit and your not going to let it go to waist. I keep a heap of fish, but nothing gets wasted, heads frames...nothing but the guts (with the odd exception).  It all goes to those who need it, and with our govt taking so much, fresh fish and home grown veggies is the only thing they don't get there dirty mits on.
 
Personally I like to put back any snap over 10lb, imo they have the better genes and produce better off spring, I'd never force anybody to do this as its only a personal choice.
Now that is spawning time for snapper, I'll be trying to select only males to take home.
And wont be keeping my limit...unless its needed for something.

Saying somebody should get a punch to the head for keeping more fish than you would is just Wacko...well I guess I should stop there.

Lethal $9.99/kg is very cheap.  Looked at whole snapper on ice this morning at the local supermarket and was A$15.99/kg (around NZ$20).  I doesn't seem particularly smart to me for the comms to be targetting spawning fish.  Short term gain.  Sort of like ****ting in you own nest I would think, but then again, I don't know the details of your fishery. 
In the last few years in WA we have seen the introduction of severely reduced bag limits for the most popular targetted table fish and the introduction of fishing licences ($40/annum).  I would have to say that this has not been received well by all.  I think the main failure has been the lack of meaningful scientific evidence supporting the need for the restrictions by the fisheries dept.  The regular fishos are mostly OK with the restrictions because they can take their two snapper regularly.  It is mainly the less frequent fishos that consider they are being hard done by.  Sorry for the ramble - just an insight as to what's going on over here.

Fish Addict, we still share the gulf with the Com's they have a pretty large quota to be caught and the bulk of it is done during spawning....
methods used are longlining an Danish seine trawlers that is inside the gulf only...
whole snapper at Pac"in"save are selling right now at $9.99kg which is pretty cheep considering gas over here is regular $1-95lt....

For the record in the waters around Perth in Western Australia each angler is permitted a daily catch of two snapper and the minimum size is 500mm.  No snapper can be taken between the dates of  15 October and 15 December.  There is a snapper spawning ground just south of Perth and that has separate restrictions with respect to when you can fish in that area. 
 
Commercial fishing for snapper is banned in Perth waters.  Clap

i never go over my limit and always stick to the rules, i can give fish to whoever i wish....
