I fondled some fixed spool Fin Nors just now in a shop in town...all I can say is WOW serious grunt and top quality build through and throughThumbs Up.
 
There was even a drop dead gorgeous Fin Nor SB rod about 7ft long and 6 pound Fin Nor reel...$499 ...was tempted but I have already spent my santa money on some gold penns.Cry

guys, personally ok,
you buy what you can afford, you buy what your confident in and you buy what is reliable, your the only one who knows what reel the fish is being caught with, the fish dont, over the years there have been faults in all reels the biggest problem in any reel is water getting into the bits and pieces and then the drag system.

if you want a bullet proof reel then dont look past a Penn 9/0, but hang on thats not what the Joneses use, who gives a rats its what suits your needs sure it aint gold but does the color of a amns skin make him any better, the same goes for reels.

Take a Penn apart, far more robust than a Shimano bigger bearings etc where as shimano are very small.
but who cares they both hold line and get the job done, who was that singer that wrote and sung that song.....that dont impress me much....
its like Ford and Holden, lets face it they are both as good as each other, but it comes down to the individual, dont be swayed by Joe Bloggs catches marlin and he just uses Shimano so we got to get them, buy what you can afford, or it may mean waiting till you can afford them I love Finors, I just cant afford them so I settled with Shimano cause I wanted my gear now not later, now to be fair I sure have not regreted it, but thats just me

As kids we often only had home made rods and reels.Not quite as bad as this one but some were close..

I have a very eclectic mix, shimano rods n reels, penn rods n reels, Jarvis walker, kilwell, daiwa, shakespear, tica. lets face it, if its looked after properly and well built in the first place, does it really matter what brand it is? Buy Nz made,Kilwell made in rotorvegas..I have okuma and diawa rods ive had penn rods in the past.. wrong the hook catches the fish.....
the line comes up tight....
the rod then bends....
the fish pulls the line from the reel...
the reel breaks the line because the drag is sticky....
in the end the angler is at fault because he never looked after it....
so no matter what you use if its not looked after sooner or latter it will not work as it should.....
some need more attention than other, hence the more attention needed the less people like them....
