Thanks Lethal for explaining some of the unexplained bust-offs I had experienced when I was pretty sure the line never touched the rock. I loved to use the running sinker rig and the trace does twist around the mainline sometimes especially when the sinker is only 1/4 oz and the mainline is 4.5 kg. I believe it would not take much force for nylon to cut into itself.

the only problem i see with not fixing the second hook is it is not IGFA...

i would put possibly 3 to 5 half hitches at the end at least one should still be holding when it gets to the bottom....you would have to discard the rig if you wanted to change your sinker if it was between the to hooks...just thinking....but i do like that idea...

i lost three big fish in a row in deep water due to the sinker running up the trace and the bait spinning around the mainline on the way down, when the fish took the bait the twists in the line never came undone and i got broken off, took awhile to work out how these fish broke me off as i just got mainline back and no trace or sinker....that was a long time ago but it still sticks in the mind as they where very large Snaps i lost that day....

I too have used that method and found it pretty good even without snelling the top or "keeper hook". Still have to park near fish tho.

Those guys have them covered all right, cannot improve on that.

Trolling= pull a lure behind a boat in order to catch predatory fish.

Jigging= vertically bouncing a weighted lure below an anchored or slowly moving boat

Straylining= drfiting a minimally weighted bait back into a target area for a fish species, mostly used in snapper fishing.

Ta= a black, sticky, glutinous substance that splatters all over the gel-coat of your new boat as you drive to the boat ramp firsttime out to try your luck at trolling, jigging or straylining.

this is my idea of how it go's.........it would be to send a lightly weighted bait down towards a reef system..... normaly no deeper than 100ft 33mtrs..... the idea is to present this bait so it acts as if it was attached to nothing.... the better the presentation the more chance of a bigger fish.... big fish are a little wiser than the small guys, they have been around a while, like 20plus years for a fish maybe 15-18lb....you will increase your hookup rate by decreasing your line weight as heavy line will get towed along with the current and put a large bow in your line making it hard to stay in touch with the bait... one other thing i do is attach or half hitch my sinker into the bait so it all go's down together... you would normaly send this bait down a burley trail that has already been setup as the fish are atracted to this, thinking of a easy feed.....

thats just the basic's.... there is a whole lot more but you think about that first....then ask a few more latter....
