Guess it's not something you want to go around shouting about.

On the way to the Waitete weekend at Barrie's I had the chilly bin chocker with ice come loose. Later on I found the remains of a guide in the bottom of the boat. My heart sunk, but I soon saw that all the guides on the new Jelly Tip were intact. Lucky for me it was only a cheap Shimano Spectrum jobbie that felt the impact. Rod's worth $30 I think.

Anyway, I can get it repaired. But... I was thinking of teaming the Shimano BC2000 baitcaster up with something with a little more finesse.

So I put this question to the floor. What do you guys reckon would make a great little buddy for this reel? I will take care of this one, I promise!

BTW, I spool this reel with 4kg mono.

Boz, I don't know if they come in that class either. Never seen one, so I guess it may be "no".

Choices, choices and then some more choices.

I'm a fan of the Backbone rods and the Daiwa stuff. This could be more of a mission than I had first expected. Especially when there are some OH Dropshots to throw in the mix too!

Finatic, one of my VIP's, the one with the triangular shaped handle, it has a 10-25lbs rating, very nice action (as they all are!) lovely fold away top, so whats that equate to,? 5kgs to 12kg?  hmmm......food for thought, unless you wanna read the whole menu first SmileThumbs Up

Why not a Berkley Drop shot  rod Si?
It would seem that specific rods for baitcasters/ fixed spool reels don't need to be of concern & the dropshot is good for finesse fishingLOL
If it dosen't feel comfortable,  turn the whole shebang up-side down & wind backwardsLOLLOLLOL

I think the VIP169L-8 is lighter again but I can't say I have seen one about in a long time.

Moocha, I've just deleted that post, as too much to edit. This is the real deal!. It's a cs197c model with that triangular handle, same rating tho. It has about three slight knicks on it, other than that, it is as tho I just bought it yesterday...Lethal has about 3 of them!!  and one which accounted for a 30lb snapper!!  My other one was the one that I hot rodded, it is the a 270cs, a heavier rated rod. Have a look in Gingers,  might still be one or three vip rods there, I know he's got a 80j sitting in the rack!!

Fair while since they made them, so to see a few still around here and there, well.....get 'em while you can...!! One of Daiwa's best action rods ever made, the VIP, I reckon....

Moocha,disregard all other posts of mine, Shocked this evening I'm losin' it,Wacko I'm afraid. This IS the real deal!! I'm getting mixed up with my Pro Sabre rods, of which I have two, and it is these,that are rare. The cs197c I mentioned b4, relates to one of these rods, I've just been out to my tackle shop,err, I mean my garage, and found out my error!!Shocked!! I've only the one VIP, the 80j, which I have 'hot rodded'. Lethal has 3 of the CS 197c Sabres, I recall him saying, and he has VIP's as well..  so I can't say how many guides on that rod you asked about, mate, after all that. As my sig pic below says, a fine line......Wacko

Got a backbone 4-8kg and I'd say it suits 4kgs better than 8kgs - good value for money IMO. The Berkley rods look to have a great action too. Never tried one but worth a look. I've got a couple of VIPs and would get a 3rd without blinking if it wasn't for the 'I want list' that seems to get bigger every day.

Hey Uncle, that's not a bad idea - the upside down winding backwards method. Then again... After using my Dropshot which is a 1 piece I would probably prefer a rod the same... I mean, in one piece.
