After getting myself prepared ie reading and talking and spending a fair amount on the right gear(with alot of help from the members here)i have landed a nice 33lb kingi from the very hard black stuff.
Short story, after a good walk in (1 hr) to a nice akl west coast ledge we set up for some serious fishing. Once big gear set up ready for a livey (45mins) attached livey and balloon and preseeded to get in postion as kawaii was not playing the game, with reel not in gear or even the clicker they turned up and smashed it(hook up!!!) managed to calm down and have it all under control quite quickly. I have to say i'm very happy with my limited big fish skills and with thanks to the gear it was ****en unreall, line lost and gained for the next 10mins untill he was pretty much spent, time to land him and this is where it got a little pear shaped!!!!
I backed the drag off as i had to step over a small crack (2ft wide 15ft+deep) next thing i know i'm under water with some clarlet colouring the water(what the hell) as i get my bearings i realise i'm now below sea level and this isn't as much fun as before!I hear my mate calling out as i poke head out of water(in quite a panick now)he's asking if i can see the gaff, yes but he carn't see me as im in a small cave, i get him to take the rod and if the fish is still there to keep on going and i'll find my way out which i did with much difficulty as it was a wee ways up a very slipery vert cave face.I make quite quickly as you do and see the fish is very much still hooked and ready for a gaff shot.
I take back the rod as the body's not in real good shape to get down the ledge to do the gaff job, thanks to a bloody good mate the fish is gaffed and landed.
After all that 33lbs of kingfish was my prize 2nd prize was carrying the 1st prize back around the rocks and 1hr up a very narrow track to the car.
Have a chance to take hold of what just happened and give my mate a very thankful hug(oh come on).
Three days off work from minnor cuts and some heavy bruizing to my ass and shoulder which is still on the tender side.
Both of us are experienced rockos although snapper has been my choice over the years, you just never know what install and you can never be to careful, just make sure you are with someone you can trust and be prepared for the unexpected as it can be the difference between life and death!!
Thanks again Matt
Sorry it's so long and hope you enjoy and take note.
Cheers BLOKHEAD

Nice king...personal bests are hard to beat!!
Nice fish Blokhead and lucky escape by the sounds.
How are the bruises coming along?
Had an incident once rockhopping which ended up with one butt making solid contact with a gnarly piece of crustascean encrusted rock. Counted all the colours of the rainbow with the ensueing bruises. Imagine yours will be the same. LOL, just dont let your wife catch you looking at it in the mirror.
