Evening...
 
Has anybody tried surfcasting using soft plastic baits ?
 
I've been told they don't work, as you can't jig them up and down to create movement. But I don't jig my whole pilchards so what's the difference ?
At least they'd stay on better during casting !
 
Anybody tested the water ?

Yup, it does work. I've done moderately well with s/p's on a dropper rig with a small float about a metre above the top hook to keep it off the bottom, As shown in NZ Fishing news.
 
There's some really good info in 'NZ fishing news' November issue on page 54.
 
Also good info in April and July issues aswell.
Yes it was me, I screwed it up for everyone.

Yeah, that set up in NZFN looks to be the go, the writer described some success, too. A float above with trace lying into a gut will provide some movement and there's no reason that (particularly kahawai) won't go it!
