Looks like one of our Auckland Snapper escaped!

Seriously though is this climate change in action and the beginning of more changes to come?
Good fishing trip nothing breaks, great trip catch fish.

Nothing new here. A rare catch in otago. Yes. Unprecedented ,no.

Maybe the herald should do some research.
" A treasury of n.z fishes-1953-Graham. David H.
A study of fish species at the old portobello marine research station ,otago harbour.
A book full of interesting observations from his work early last century .
Snapper --P auratus. Blueskin bay,North Reef,Tauroa heads,taieri mouth. 6-22 fathoms. Up to 16lbs--31 inch total length..
Frequency one or two per week taken by trawlers throughout year.

Kingfish-S grandis also feature in his observations.

He also records Ling and haupuka as normal catches in shallow water inside the harbour at that time

Why would any reporter today do research when a recorded sound bite and picture is so much easier.
Given that climate change is the new religion, why would you bother.
Just tack it on as another example.
I suspect even new flavours at Starbucks will be put down as a response to climate change.

Remember the striped marlin caught off Fiordland (down that way anyways) about 25+yrs back, caught trolling while out for tuna.
Was the talk of the town for a while.
Nothing unusual when there are warm pockets of water among the the rest of the sea

Cant remember the old sailing book I had, was popular in the 70s, there's a passage written about a confirmed sighting of a sailfish out off the barrier in the outer hauraki gulf
Seems fish don't play by the rules
