Hello all, I’m planning on heading out for a land based mish this Sunday 11/05 to try and catch my first King. Wanting some recommendations on spots to try please, I live in Auckland but am willing to travel an hour or two. Currently considering Whatipu and have also been told that Marsden Point will likely get me my first kingy.
Thanks!

Lots of good kingfish caught from the North edge of the Manukau harbour, West of Huia.  Not my area so I can't give you much help, but hopefully someone here has some info.

If you're centrally located Tamaki drive is a great spot for land based kingis biggest i've caught went 10kg. Ive had best success down towards rhe Mechanics bay end. Jack Mack livies are the go to bait and have found best success on the out going tide. An early high tide is perfect as you can catch your livies easily.   Fish the livies close like 3-4m from shore. Its great fun have even caught a few good snaps on the surface...

I’ve seen a few rat kings too cruising the shoreline when running along there in the morning. Not big fish but legals
