BM, I've fished a few times at Omaha Cove which is the bay just south of Goat Island. It's just around the corner from the Outpost. I haven't had much luck but that could be because I have been fishing in the middle of the night. Usually catch a few snapps bordering on being legal. I haven't been up there for a couple of months now. I'm trying to fish at the Outpost sometime, but want to go there during the daytime.

Good luck!

Whilst up at Leigh a few months back I got talking with a couple of locals on this subject - they told me that the big ones come in under the cover of dark and the the biggest fish (at that time) were being caught at about 2 am. Sounds to me BM that you are fishing at the right time at that spot. Plenty of burley would be the answer at this time of the year. i.e. burley bombs and plenty of chunked up pillies.

Last time I was up there we dispersed about 10kgs of pillie/mussel berley and caught bugger all. Things started off pretty promising at around 10pm I think it was. We left at 3.30am with zip.

thanks for the info. i fished there over the easter holidays in th early mornings then went for a surf then fished the evenings. did this for 4 days straight. generally fished mornings 5:00-7:30 and evenings 6:00-9:00. i wasnt using burley as i didnt have any but i was throwing in kina and chopped up pillies. next time i will be organised and give it a solid bashing.

Have a look under the cemetry. there is an easy track down to the ledges. Has been productive in the past but I'd wait for the swell to ease! Burley up

Cemetery?, What cemetery are these guys talking about? I've been finding as of late I've been having more action on the west coast than the east coast but want to make my way back upto Leigh again.

haha talk about an old post. The CEM wasnt bad in 2003.......5 years ago now!

But Oneleg is right, lots of small goldfish there now. Last time I went there i could onl fish 1 rod as every single bait got hit. Ended up with about 30 landed but only 2 or 3 legal.

Hi there, If you go to Mathesons bay, walk around to the RIGHT hand point just before a private beach there, there are a couple of bricks sticken out. Take the mask and get loads of kina, smash em up ina bucket with your gaff butt and hurf them into the burly. Done this while spearfishing and had 25 30 pannies come in about 50m off the rocks bout 4m of water. Some lager ones bout 3kg too! I'm itching to give it ago sometime but wil wait for crud water vis so can't go spearfishing! Flick in half unweighted pillies and they will do the damage. Also yeah the top of outpost is good lots of good kings up there also lots of decent sharks so get the kings in quickly! Again burly up with whatever you get your hands on.  Let us know how you go!

Hi. The outpost(maori island( as we know it can be a top spot. Land based be prepared for a stay of the tide.6 or so years ago the biggest fish caught from a Fryan was caught there on a 13ft boat, on the Furuno. The weather was bad but the water there is deep. I used to get crays around the corner by the steps but gave up as too many people were pulling my pots. Also in the entrance to leigh harb at the right time it can be squid paradise. Cheers.

Thought this one might be worth an update :)

.... nice easy walk in and the track is mostly still maintained.

Looks like it would go off more in the evening..... Plenty of people fishing it during the day.
