i have fished off the cornwallis wharf many times, but was wondering if they mean end of beach or something

I was out on Sunday morning off mako point, opposite Cornwallis...straight into deep water.....Apparently the cake is good for kingies, so ive been told by several people tho ive yet to try it....

To me end of cornwallis would be the wharf, but if not then you can walk out to the rocks on the right and go all the way to puponga point at low tide. You can walk to cake i have done it once but didn't end up fishing it as was unsure of how high the tide came up, its on the other side of the manukau opposite puponga point. Take the track over the hill much easier than going round the water side supposedly awesome for kings as it has a nice deap back eddy they come around in but be careful of the sharks!

Isnt the track over the hill private land or tapu or soemthing? never been out there myself but remember reading or hearing something like that ages ago?

its the deepest spot in the harbour  so close to land that is ,10 mters of its 120 feet +
dont know a bout tapu in the boat or other wise,but def only fishing is on the top or bottom of the tide because of the currents

No tapu from what ive been told by local yocals,, its is one of the deepest parts of the harbour..1ve got 130 + off kauri point.....( with BIGGG dark shapes appearing on the sounder ) ive been told by few people now about sharks around there.. hence how mako point got its name,yet have the anchor maintain hold in that area while the current was on the move....

Cake is on the other side of the harbour ratherbfishn (southern side), don't believe the land is tapu, there is an old buriel site on the hill to the left of cake, went up there with the ranger at the time and she said you just have to be careful, the hill looked like it had been a bit churned up possibly from livestock and don't think they would let them trample all over tapu land......

deacs, i just realised were it is, and i fished out of a boat there once, i caught a baby hammerhead there, so wouldnt be supried if there were bigger sharks there

Cake Island was that once, but is now joined to the main land on the Awhitu Peninsular
With  HUGE W.P. sharks  Hammers in that area, and of course so Kings, a nice long walk tho.

here ya go, quick bit of use of the old search function found this post from jake10....
 
Quote  to get there drive to Wattle Bay ( at the end of the peninsular - well sign posted )plenty of safe parking then facing north towards Destruction Gully across the harbour , you go towards your left hugging the coastline , you go around the first point to Tipitai where you will see the remanants of an old jetty then around the next point where you will see the Cake it juts out of the headland and is not really an island more of an outcrop , there is a pretty easy clamber to the top then you have two options( by the way thus far you will have taken 20-30 minutes to get to where your at can be done at high tide but you will get up to mid thigh wet )
1/use the rope thats tied to a tree and lower yourself down onto the ledge which is never under water - large testicles and smallish brain required ........ this is my sons option .
2/go over to the next bay and shimmy around onto the ledge ....... my option .

What makes this ordeal worth the hassle ? .... as far as i know one the only places in the Manukau where you can safely landbase the channel at all tidal heights , this ledge juts out into some very deep water and affords you an opportunity to marvel at the currents the Manukau generates hence Tipitai ( rippling waters ) it sometimes seems you are fishing into a river - the flow is so strong.
Oh and one more thing the hillside facing the Cake is an ancient Maori burial ground thats eroding and unearthing bones etc .......... respect bro , i guess we have a responsibility to let others know so please try to treat them like you would have your family members treated and dont wander all over the hillside - if you go there and stand on the ledge , look left - you will see what i mean .
