Nice feed there mate

We got a good feed out on the Kaipara today.

Went out yesterday (Dec 27) from Hobson bay, first trip since August. Fished around Rakino, no interest in slow pitch jigs or squid softbait. Fell back to bait fishing with squid. Landed a couple of snapper 35 and 40 cm. Then headed off to D'Urville rock off Waiheke. Pretty sure the DoC boat? made to intercept me as I transited the Noises HPA. I was texting the missus so I was zig-zagging all over the show for a bit, so fair enough. Tried jigging around D'rville - no luck.

Not really a serious day out, had too blow the 'spiders' out of the boat, probably need to sort the battery out too. Fairly quiet out there in terms of other boats for this time of year.

Haven’t been out a lot this year so haven’t posted a lot. Anyway me and my mate hit the water today around 9.30 out from Stanmore bay. Bit of a light southerly blowing so I thought ee would try the sand halfway across to Motuora. Picked up a 350mm amongst the 30 under sized snapper. Kept heading over to Motuora and fished the bottom end for another 350mm and another 30 under sized fish, still a lot of small fish around.

Wind dropped so we headed over to Tiri, picked up a good feed last time I was over there about 6 weeks ago. Nothing around wooded island so we thought we would run some drifts past shag rock, but not a lot going there as well.

So back over to the sand at the 25 metre mark. Got there at low tide so got setup ready for the current to come on, which it did and picked up 3 nice pannies dragging soft baits. As the current picked up a school of KYs showed up which was a shipload of fun and ended up taking 6 good size KYs home along with the 5 snapper.

Not a bad day in the end.

I’ve done a lot better on the micro jigs this all be it small snapper, my thoughts are the smaller fish haven’t yet developed the predator instinct yet and just grab a micro jig because they are hungry and like the shiny flash.
