At last I can start this topic !!! solid Condor Craft Skipjack 132 with transom already raised 4 year old DMW trailer which was custom built for the boat purchased off a friend for a good deal as he needed something bigger for the family plans for the future strip down insides, glass in a few modifications & paint build an anchor box into the top of the foredeck split the bowrail in the centre and bend down to mount on the deck to create a big V install carpet inside (infront of seat only) repaint topsides (unsure of colour ... options cherry red or metallic purple or monster energy green) repair gel coat along bottom (a few chips from beach launching) and then one day buy a brand new 30hp (will be slightly underpowered but only going for use in around the bottom end of waiheke and the odd coromandel road trip) will attempt to keep this updated with progress / photos as I go sanding starts tonight  Cheers Lewis ------------- I just read an article about the dangers of drinking too much; it scared the sh*t out of me, so today I decided I'm never f*cking reading again! |

Having the same boat myself I would go 40hp if you can. My 35hp seems a tad under powered but awesome boats and great inner harbor fishing platform. Great ride and stability for the size I put carpet the whole way from inside front to the back where it steps down to the tank I also put a 56l icey tek in the well where the passenger back to back seat was and that has made heaps of room |

i always thought condor crafts had lower freeboard. They are a gullwing hull arent they? i agree 40hp would be better if more than 2 up, but 30 should go ok as they go good on v13's. you could always keep your eye out for a near new 40 still under warranty and maybe get one for the price of the new 30. just a small compromise on warranty length. nice trailer, always makes life much better and looks good condition. look forward to seeing some pics of the deck and seats etc. best of luck, take your time and do it right the first time and you will never want to sell the thing :-)

condors are wider then the V13's and heavier I have ridden in this one with a 40 yam and my cousins with a 30 merc and happy with the 30hp. another reason why i'm going to the 30 is towing weight ... trying to keep it to a minimum gull wing? I know there is a larger condor 'gullwing' variant ... I here it is poxie ride. will take some before pictures when I get home before sanding time ------------- I just read an article about the dangers of drinking too much; it scared the sh*t out of me, so today I decided I'm never f*cking reading again! |

Lickindip,a bloody good project with a well thought out To Do list. I will follow your work with interest. They were built solid. I had a mate who tried to wreck one with 65hp diving and skiing. I presume you will change the name? |

When I did my own project years ago, those one piece disposable overalls were fantastsic - the kind with the hood. Goggles for the eyes, and a good industrial barrier cream for exposed skin. Just be prepared to sweat ... |

when i had a glass boat i would take home my PPE from work (goggles, respirator, etc) ... quick search on trademe found something like: http://www.trademe.co.nz/building-renovation/painting-wallpaper/other/auction-833617143.htm or http://www.trademe.co.nz/building-renovation/building-supplies/safety-gear/protective-gear/auction-834005483.htm either option would be fantastic for that sort of work (+ the disposable overalls mentioned earlier)

have been busy catching the odd marlin so no real progress Bit more internal grinding / sanding completed stripped off canopy and rodholders etc about to start marking out the anchor box size (make sure I miss the stringers :S) brought a few bits an pieces (gaff/net) so I can mark out where it is all going down the sides and get the brackets sorted for them prior to glassing a few repairs etc have taken the name off the side - and have the new name done from a graphics designer :D ------------- I just read an article about the dangers of drinking too much; it scared the sh*t out of me, so today I decided I'm never f*cking reading again! |

mates boat has it in that position, easier when one on board. stand at wheel and pull anchor up from side of boat. easy access to motor controls if need be I will be changing the bow rail and split it in 2 so easy to flick rope over the nose ... then no reason to stand on bow ------------- I just read an article about the dangers of drinking too much; it scared the sh*t out of me, so today I decided I'm never f*cking reading again! |

I may have forgotten to mention that I have access to a laser cutter dummy cuts on custom board to make sure everything fits  rubber band keeps it all from jumping out, might more it up but another inch or so  final pieces cut out of decent ply and a bit of sanding sealer added  going to start getting a few things ready to glass in all at once will put the net on the other side of the boat but a bit more forward so doesn't get in the way of rod storage ------------- I just read an article about the dangers of drinking too much; it scared the sh*t out of me, so today I decided I'm never f*cking reading again! |

Progress!! Temp box cut from cardboard ... making sure it fits  cutting out the 10mm marine ply with a laser ... pushing the limits as it wasn't cutting all the way through the glue melts/burns and stops the cutting :( nothing a quick bandsaw didn't fix  box all jigged up  hole cut in boat  glassed all internal faces of the box ... will glue together and make an fillet to keep it tidy  ------------- I just read an article about the dangers of drinking too much; it scared the sh*t out of me, so today I decided I'm never f*cking reading again! |

been fishing the nationals so lack of progress Box all Glued together  filleting job on the inside not completely tidy but will do the job  heading to 3 kings next week so progress will slow again next up is the glass the outside edges and sealing before fitting into the hull and connecting the drain pipe - to go from back stb corner to through stb hull via a bulk head fitting ------------- I just read an article about the dangers of drinking too much; it scared the sh*t out of me, so today I decided I'm never f*cking reading again! |

back from the kings and a couple more marlin under my belt  straight back into it   got the drain glued into the middle rear (bit of carbon pipe that was holesaw'd and ground flush... couldn't get it into the outside corner as tubing wouldn't bend nicely :( slow progress but still progress ------------- I just read an article about the dangers of drinking too much; it scared the sh*t out of me, so today I decided I'm never f*cking reading again! |

Looking for someone half decent to do the stainless welding … anyone up for a box of beers? Items to be done, 1: Bow rail – cut, bend down, attach new base plates 2: Windscreen handles … attach a piece of pipe between the 2 approx 200mm long, should strengthen it all up nicely Can’t say I have any welding gear / supplys or scrap SS Can anyone help me out or point me to someone that can … in the Auckland Papakura / Ardmore area ------------- I just read an article about the dangers of drinking too much; it scared the sh*t out of me, so today I decided I'm never f*cking reading again! |

6 way switch panel small pump for mini tuna tubes preferably with a pickup I can attach easily to the rear transom FCO manukau and Burnsco manukau both have good prices on these at the momentPick bracket.. make out of a bit of ally channel.. mount thru the middle. I have some off cuts here that I used...saves buying a min 2m length from ullrich in manukau. |

 nice and simple ... small Angle bracket made from Ali and etch primed, 3 screw holes ... just need to sika on for good 30 degree cut on bottom of pipe and height adjustable. should have enough flex in pipe to pull up and out of way if dumping on beach mini tuna tubes ... does anyone have any empty bottles of sky vodka? bit of slow progress ... learning the art of duck shooting at the moment got the 2 mini tubes glassed up and fitted into the gunnel. will have to add another layer or 2 of glass to thicken up the tubes from getting bashed about before glassing them all in and sanding them flat. positioned them right on the outside so the water is completely free to spill over the side ------------- I just read an article about the dangers of drinking too much; it scared the sh*t out of me, so today I decided I'm never f*cking reading again! |

sanded out the clipped areas and put a bit of resin over the exposed glass will block sand smooth this week if weather allows ... hopefully it will be warm enough to get some primer on as well   excuse the tape on the front ... just trying to keep some water off the lights before I seal them in

manful weekend so got some paint (primer) on the repairs going to need to pick up some 2k white in the week and hopefully get it painted properly in the weekend. then the filleting of the rub strip and flip her back over then more sanding and painting, more sanding ... more painting

got a bit of progress completed    custom vinyl stickers (any shape / size available on request and $)  who knows if this will be a good attractor for kingfish and marlin they may come off on first trip but not really fussed made sure there was a clear path in front of the transducer (for once thinking ahead) sika'd up the sides of the keel strip going to wait for till the weekend until taking it outside and flipping over, going to let the paint harden as much as possible ------------- I just read an article about the dangers of drinking too much; it scared the sh*t out of me, so today I decided I'm never f*cking reading again! |

....going to be interesting when the feeding marlin nails it bill right up thru the floor between your feet when you are standing in your cockpit. Or a big hauraki gulf thresher smacks the crap out of your hull thinking it is an easy feed! 😊 Looks like a fun build. SPRAYED ON THE PRIMER!!!   before priming I went around and filled all the visual holes with bog ... little did I know there where lots more ... one of the worst area's on the foredeck. must have been a Monday morning build hull in the factory where they didn't get rid of the bubbles between the jell coat and first lot of glass  I have a couple of options to fill them up before the top coat ... most likely mix up a batch of thick primer and trowel on with a business card ------------- I just read an article about the dangers of drinking too much; it scared the sh*t out of me, so today I decided I'm never f*cking reading again! |

Looks like I made my decision on the engine ... Brand spanking new out of the box 30HWL may need to be lifted slightly as the cavitation/planning strake is about 1" below the V of the boat. (manual states level to 1" below) will test as is and raise if need be  one question - it states not to use the 'pin' to hold the motor up while traveling on the trailer, other then a block of wood stuck in there, what are some of the fancier options?------------- I just read an article about the dangers of drinking too much; it scared the sh*t out of me, so today I decided I'm never f*cking reading again! |

I use a piece of old broomstick to support the motor when traveling. ( pinched it off the Mrs. )Also had to install a 3 degree wedge to improve the trim. |

| Using a motor brace is a good idea. I picked up a very nice stainless one up from a boat yard on the way out of Turangi (going sth) - they get them made up and cost about $30 (from memory) cheap as chips and it gives me much more confidence than the block of wood I used to use. I think they call them yoyo bars but my memory might be playing tricks on me. |

what to do when you have one Bus Bar and requiring 2 ... you cut it in half and 3D print a bracket for the middle got the final coat of paint on Friday Arvo got the bulk of the fittings on, carpet fitted (yet to glue down) first coat of paint in the anchor box done last night  (USB / Cig Lighter on the left)  sorry photos are a bit dark as lighting in garage is rubbish still a long list of jobs to do and sometimes the list grows found a stringer on the top deck that is starting to come off so glassing a patch over that tonight ------------- I just read an article about the dangers of drinking too much; it scared the sh*t out of me, so today I decided I'm never f*cking reading again! |

Sorry photo quality is a little bad nice and simple, it all goes back flush to how the deck was before I cut it open I put a decent oversized drain in so the odd wave/splash over the nose shouldn't be a problem

Got the Warrant and WOF sorted in the weekend  then decided it was time to install the motor  I'm getting slightly more steering on the motor one way then the other, think I need to adjust in the back of the steering wheel, else a slightly longer control arm on the motor ------------- I just read an article about the dangers of drinking too much; it scared the sh*t out of me, so today I decided I'm never f*cking reading again! |

95% of the wiring done over the weekend and all is working fine (including the mini tubes) just need to tidy a couple of wires away trying to sort out options for a new windscreen - does anyone have any options around south Auckland that you would rate? all that I am waiting on is: Buy up of stainless bolts, need to write myself a list Engine Sign off install rod holders around seat buy and install name stickers final clean up and accessory install I'm sure the list is much longer ------------- I just read an article about the dangers of drinking too much; it scared the sh*t out of me, so today I decided I'm never f*cking reading again! |

 storage rod holders in place in front of the seats, just need to drill a bolt through the bottom for the rod foot to locate.2 outside ones are larger dairy tube (50.8dia) for the bigger rods  also had to get the 3D printer working last night so printed a couple of sleeves for the larger pipes, the brackets where slightly oversized ------------- I just read an article about the dangers of drinking too much; it scared the sh*t out of me, so today I decided I'm never f*cking reading again! |

I am after some advice ... windscreen existing one cracked/split, scratched to hell and not strong replacement plastic will be ballpark $500 - will look good in a black smokey colour and will be see through - still not very strong, can get scratched up and cant modify after replacement in folded stainless sheet - stong but similar price replacement in folded aluminium and then powder coated (im thinking white to match hull) ... 1/2 the price, folded and including a nice round bar handle - easy to drill other holes in for attachments for inside and outside etc ... just wont be see though ... but driving position your head is above anyway thoughts? artistic impression below ...  ------------- I just read an article about the dangers of drinking too much; it scared the sh*t out of me, so today I decided I'm never f*cking reading again! |

polycarbonate sheet and cut to fit yourself? bending it is pretty easy so long as you dont get too close with the heat gun. I made a frame with some angle steel and ply wood i had lying around and bent it with that. granted it does scratch easily, but isnt that expensive and 4.0mm sheet is tough enough for anything I could throw at it (literally)

got the boats bum wet on Sunday afternoon quick run around KKB to make sure all is well tubes overflow when on the plane (no pump required) got a few Kahawai to test out the tubes and dad got smoked by a little king on 8kg will need to lift the engine maybe 20mm but that was expected note to self ... get squab ASAP ------------- I just read an article about the dangers of drinking too much; it scared the sh*t out of me, so today I decided I'm never f*cking reading again! |

blooded the boat wit a 9.985kg king just after Xmas lifted the engine and might go a little higher before sticking the bolts in. need a few changes with the size of the tubes - might need to extend them a bit as they are short :S all a good learning curve brought a 2nd fuel tank so now can comfortably go into the firth / around waiheke :D ------------- I just read an article about the dangers of drinking too much; it scared the sh*t out of me, so today I decided I'm never f*cking reading again! |

Question: Adding stayputs to aluminium windscreen surround I have found some nylon stayputs for the clears for the canopy … question is if I was to either bolt through the aluminium surround or tap into the walls … what bolts would be best as SS316 will end up reacting with the aluminium and corroding = not pretty in the extrusion there is room to bolt through without hitting the Perspex

You can use all aluminium pop rivets (73 AA 4-3), alternatively use all stainless pop rivets (73 STST 4-3). Use a 3.2mm drill bit and the rivet seals in the hole and there will be no corrosion. If you are fitting Durable (dome) studs to aluminium use stainless studs and stainless pop rivets with a nylon washer between the stud and the aluminium . |

Finally got off my ass and mounted the Canopy BIG thanks again to Uncle on here for the donation i didnt quite install it in the 'correct' down position in front of the windscreen (got in the way of the anchor box) so its not as level as i would have liked ... but this still gives alright head room the half position should work great as an easy wind/sun break      ------------- I just read an article about the dangers of drinking too much; it scared the sh*t out of me, so today I decided I'm never f*cking reading again! |

The problem I had with it mate was it obscured my Nav lights when I had it properly stowed down. Wasn't an issue as I never had get out in the dark anyhow, despite my best intentions. I would suggest you get a couple of those waterproof LED lights and put them under the foredeck line each side of the fair lead...then you have lights that are awesome for loading the boat in the trailer, coming in to jetties, seeing where your anchor is going, and making good bait light as well. Well rebuild basically done so starting with the modifications Mini Tuna Tubes where a little of the short side so needed to be lengthened  Cut off both sides  Managed to find the same $2 bottles from the 1st time  used the grey tape to create a bit of a lip so they will fit around the existing part still on the boat  YES they are make off centered for a reason ... refer back to the first and second pictures ... need to kink it inboard to miss the hull  a few layers of 100g cloth followed by a layer of 300g and a bit of 100g to tidy the loose ends   trim the end and smash the glass out and its a beautiful smooth finish between the joint just awaiting the 2nd one to set befor a quick tidy up - paint - re seal the valve in as last time it was done in the boat so not very tidy will try and get them in the boat this afternoon ------------- I just read an article about the dangers of drinking too much; it scared the sh*t out of me, so today I decided I'm never f*cking reading again! |

All Fitted up and ready to go in left them in the hot water cupboard over night to allow the sika around the valve to go off. the valve itself drips ever so slightly so I might pop out the insert and add some Vaseline to help seal it weather dependant I might get them in this afternoon------------- I just read an article about the dangers of drinking too much; it scared the sh*t out of me, so today I decided I'm never f*cking reading again! |

 not the prettiest glue job or the nicest paint ... bit of a prick getting into the corner, but hey its water tight. will give it a rough up sand and probably paint all white at some point.the original tube was about the size of the silver so have extended it maybe 130mm then it was before the joint on the inside has a bit of a lip on it so will have to sand and fill that at some point as well ------------- I just read an article about the dangers of drinking too much; it scared the sh*t out of me, so today I decided I'm never f*cking reading again! |
