Enjoyed some hot top of the Coromandel and Barrier fishing over the weekend, biggest went 12 kilo on softies off the jet-ski. Did you tow to PJ and launch or did you motor from Aucks? Not sure what the round trip would be to barrier on a jetski or if even possible? Good vid ! |

Yep, I agree thats a great way to do it and much safer than trying to come from kawau imo. How much gas usage would you estimate getting to barrier from the top of coro? Some big Makos in that channel ;-p thanks for the report, really good to see one go back and one of my favourite locations. |

Agggh thats damn good fun on the cheap. Some good jigging to be done in that channel if you can slow yourself down enough. YOu probably already know that though ;-) |

How do they hold up under attack by pickers? I went off gulp after having my squid vicious always coming back with no limbs. These look nice and thick and hopefully have the same attractant. what oz head were you using and how deep was the water? i found my 2oz nitros were ok up to 35ft on a slow drift. the important factor getting them down as quickly as possible. |

30 to 40 metres depth I use the 2oz Elevator Rig... Yes the softies can get hammered by leather jackets and cod but I tend to move on once seeing to many hole punches in my baits. Squid Vicious will get more action with their floating tenticles, at least you have at least 3 chances with the fish! All my best Snapper have come higher in the water column, typically 10 metres from the surface, no probs with small fish trashing your baits with that type of fishing on the cast. ------------- Jetskifishing Monster Snapper Hunt, 15th-17th October 2021 |
