Pay to make the most of it while you can before the Cullers shoot em in the hundreds and leave them to rot where they are. Some Doc areas ive gone through have amazing numbers right now,a great opportunity for younger hunters to learn on. Nothing like goat curry/stew/roast you have shot yourself. ------------- If you think you are too small to make a difference,try sleeping with a mosquito in your tent. |

| Sounds like I need to do some investigation into who up in Whanganui needs some goat culling done. And yes Brian, your exactly right about the opportunity for younger hunters, and that is exactly why I'd be keen on heading up there. My 15 year old is keen on getting more experience in hunting and goats are a great starting point. I've taken him on a couple of goat hunts and he's really enjoyed it. |

I can see why the local farmers are up in arms the last time we were down there (November) I saw the biggest mob of Goats I have ever seen between 90 to 130 in one huge stream that never seemed to end . Makes you wonder if the powers that be who have made it harder for the young rural hunter too own a gun may have resulted in a feral goat explosion lets face it when young guys get into hunting you get a few years where there happy to bowl over a few goats until they get the deer or pig addiction when they walk past goats or dis courage the Kuri,s at looking at the smelly b@#tards. |

Driving down that way via Te Kuiti, Taumarunui,then heading down some of the lesser traveled roads,there are goats all over the place. If you cant find any in legally shootable places,then ring Doc asap for pointers on where they are, and get in there soon. otherwise,make no mistake,the cullers will go through and leave a few thousand carcasses to rot. At times theres frustrated inexperienced hunters who would be only to glad to see a goat,all they need to do is drive a little and make use of a mixture of google maps,Wams, and this http://maps.doc.govt.nz/mapviewer/index.html?viewer=dto" rel="nofollow - http://maps.doc.govt.nz/mapviewer/index.html?viewer=dto . Also, make use of LINZ, this is the ultimate resource for looking at a map,working out who exactly owns the land,and being able to ring the owner and ask for access. (I will start a new thread in hunting,for just this as its so useful for getting hunting access.check it out !) Only time i've turned my nose down at goat is when theres deersies around,but I will still drop a goat on the way out if the deer have outsmarted me. I gave Espresso something like 10-15kg of venison to play with, last week he dropped off a heap of pastrami. 9 days curing, 14 hours in the smoker? It is awesome! Had it in sammies, on crackers with cheese, olives, etc, and my favourite- on toast with cheese, grilled, and topped with caramelised onion. Top work! Looking forward to the bacon.....
