Was talking to an old guy with a bad knee at the ramp yesterday .
He said he'd hold my beer as I catch the winning gurnard for the comp .
I think he was either drunk , had mental issues or both .
Seemed nice enough though , will probably take him up on his offer .

I might bring my little boat down if I can find a willing accomplice. Can I sleep in the van somewhere close to the ramp?

Yes there is a reserve there with toilets. Safe as. I would offer a spot at my place but we are fully booked but you could park your vehicle here  and use our facilities but no sleeping room. I'm only 5 mins from the ramp.

We can do a mean after match breakfast too. don't be shy, we're a pretty casual bunch. My son is a mean guitarist too but he probably wont be here

OK cool, will confirm a bit closer to the time, thanks. I have a small camper van with a towbar so can sleep anywhere.

I've missed the ticket sales window. If anyone has a ticket they don't need, please sell it to me :)

Whats a good or best bait for them?
I tried drifting over the sand out bream bay today but could only manage small snapper.

I use skipjack or kahawai that's been in the freezer for a shile. Mullet works well also. I haven't had much luck with squid but off the west coast it seems to work as well as any. I have no idea why.

Don't worry about it, I ran my motor out of fuel last weekend (line was pinched under the tank) and it must have sucked some crap thru the filter, wouldn't idle and hard to start. So the carb is currently off the engine and my brother is going to strip and clean it for me, so no boating for me this weekend! Hope the comp goes well.

Bugger, the only way we can swap tickets is like for like and while a couple have come up they have been club member tickets. Hope you get your motor sorted, shouldn't be a biggie. Next year!

The results have been posted, but there seems to be a mistake as I can't see Smudge anywhere amongst the prize winners.

Hehe I didn't even come close Kevin! My best was 30g short of averaqge weight. Well done to forum member Wayno who is the first to ever win it twice! Even scarier, when he won it in 2013 he also won the raffle. Back then it was a 1 litre of rum. Thisyear it was a Shimano rod and reel set with a retail of close to $1000.00!

So good to have Wayno and his mate Barry stay with us, it has become a tradition.

Ironically where we went for the last two hours from 1.00pn was about 300m from where Wayno was fishing. He said he didn't catch any fish after midday. It was our best spot!

We caught 7 gurnard, two snapper and 4 kahawai. Wayno & Barry got 24 gurnard!  What a great result. Winning fish was 1.18kg

Very snotty conditions on Sunday!  I gave it a crack, but the weather wasn't getting any better, so I called it a day.  Back to shore at 10 am.  Apologies for not attending the prize-giving; I had an emergency call from the missus to head back urgently.  Turns out it was over nothing.

I'll be back next year for another crack. Well done to the participants and the winner.
