Welcome aboard Mullet (grey, red or yellow eyed??).  There are a few spots for LB in the city but they are not always too consistant and often it is a matter of right time/ right place... Having said that I would look at Tamaki Dr, there are some likely looking spots along here. Toroa Pt on the shore has produced some nice fat Kahawai for me at the top of the tide and I reckon a snapper or two could come from here also. Whangaparoa has a number of good spots asdoes the westcoast but I will let someone who knows those areas better, explain them.The wharf near Kelly Tartons can be ok... stingrays can be a problem but can also add a bit of fun to a quiet session. There are some points just east of Maraitai that can fish ok too.

Now if you are prepared to travel for a couple of hours and want some good fishing there are plenty of options... it would be my suggestion to buy the map guide that comes out early each summer. This has a lot of good info in it and is worth the 10slide. Coromandal Pen has oh so many ledges that will produce good fish and heading north Takatu Pt is worth the effort. Far out there really are so many places to fish around here and I have only mentioned a few... Baits: yip squid, but take a variety with you as well as lots o berly and ofcourse the ol cliche' fresh is best...

Have a search for landbased spots in this forum, there are some awesome spots listed in that thread form memory.

For bait you will want to be using limpets off the rocks, and bacon rind.

Im joking, pilchards are the big time bait up north, and grey mullet is pretty good.

and fresh yellowtail from the berley trail for the big ones.

Mullet,

          The ledge at Gulf harbour ( Whanagparaoa ) used to be quite good, drive through the golf course then walk down the new path then down the cliff on a rope ( not as nasty as it sounds ) It's good three hours either side of the low tide especially in the evening, it used to be quite isolated but now has housing built all around. 

That ledge still fishes quite well late Oct throo till about easter. Even the end of the Whanga pen can go off around that time too.

Heaps of good ledges although not many deep drop offs, between Hatfields bch and Martins Bay incl. Mullet point. I have a friend who regularly does well off the back of the Waiwera Is but he does berley it up a storm and is prepared to sit it out in some snotty conditions and stuck out there until the tide drops.

Take a mountain bike down Parkiri Bch and fish the ledges at the end. Watch the tide tho. outgoing is best with a mussel berley as there are good beds in that area. Under the Leigh cementry is a easy one too. short walk + good turf. best way to find good spots is like this or get in the car and go for a drive. don't leave the rod at home either.

We can even drop you on Tiri or Kawau for the day if you have a group or don't mind fitting in around our sched. Barrier is not out of the question either. PM me for details.

Plent of good ledges and ground there too. Hows the ledge with the hole in the rock at the southern end of the island! mmm v fishy. We can do a drop off on the beach for you there if you have a group. Would have to use the dingy to unload you 2 at a time.

yep im always in but it has to work around school and transport issues. if its in a weekend and someone doesnt mind a passenger then im in.

Yep CanadianJohn, keen as to set up a get together at some stage, also working around uni and work etc. I have yet to fix my reel which is slowing me down a bit. If any one knows of anywere cheap to have a reel overhaul let me know.
