Must say I am impresed, I just rigged up 3 of these lures, they certainly look quite impressive, I would certainly like to have a go with them myself some time!
This is thems....

Those are my faves, this is a shot of all three....

In fact, and I can say what I like 'cos I make nice lures..........the one I saw would have to be the best workmanship I have ever seen in lures................and a stunning colour combo for NZ.

Just a rough idea on the lures, sorry, of about $70 for one of them, don't know what the others were, as the bloke I was rigging them for wasn't entirely forthcoming about the price of them either.
I definitely like the look of that sliced face tube though. The old pacific "fruitsalad" combo is a regular winner here as well, always gotta have a fruit salad, n'est-pas?
Stu.
Oh, did you note the stiff rig method used on the hooks?

HotBites, G-Spot - Treble Six (middle lure in Capt. A's post).....yum yum....
BradM did a few special mods on my one - will post the picture tomorrow to see if you can spot the difference...
Awesome craftmenship as AC has elluded to...they should be in more shops I reckon!
PS...Stu...you wont catch a fish with your hook set on your G-Spot like that!

I too will happily confirm that the workmanship is the best in the world. Full stop. The next bubble I see in one of his heads will be the first. And Brad is a very nice person. Most Hamiltonians are. Lucky me, I've got customised ones coming to deal to an East Cape blue this weekend... I intend returning them much the worse for wear...

You like the hooks to hang a little further back do you Kerren?
I do too, but the crimp slipped and I didn't notice, and seeing as how I had just given the rigee 3 bloody good sharp hooks, trace etc, I was not naturally predisposed to re-rigging the thing again.
still, it isn't toooooo bad I thought?
Stu.
Oh, Coast-to-coast, you are a lucky bloke, sounds like Waihou is exploding at the moment. Also a lot of yellowfin too off the ranfurly today.

Sorry Stu.....
on the monitor I viewed the images on last night I couldn't see the leader coming out the head....or maybe it was the beer talking?
It kinda looked like you had just placed the hook in the skirt for photographic reasons.....appologies matey!
apart from the opitical illusion it looks sweet to me!

BTW - couldn't see your lures, Stu.
Agreed, totally, CtoC, Hamiltonians are very nice people (good discount next time eh, Mike). I collected my newest G-Spot from Brad, last night. He already has a colour scheme called "Westie" (silver over orange) and as I hear lumo and white are both taking the majority of fish up North, right now, I got Brad to make me an "Eastie". Silver over pale green.
I have a consignment to deliver for my trip, starting Sunday. You may recognise the slant faced lure, Stu. The big lure is an "Eyebrow" Now that has to be the most skippy-like colours I've ever seen. The photo doesn't really do it justice. These are beautifully made lures. I'm so lucky I'm 5 minutes away from my TAS lure maker. He's a good guy, Brad, and deserves his lures to be seen around. I believe we should support local makers, but only if they're good enough and I think these are.

Hi FishB8, that middle lure is nice, but I'd still like to see a slash of red up the belly with those colours... I don't spose it makes much odds to the fish, but I like to see some indication that it looks like a hurt baitfish! :-)
Martini Max... those skirts have been flipped over like that so that west coast fish can see them.
Cheers, Stu.

Martini.....
I don't like to camoflauge my lures .... ....by having the light side down you are effectively doing what bait fish do naturally (ie) trying to hide from predators....
Q: Do injured bait fish swim up the "right" way? on their sides?? or upside down??
silhouette is where it is at!

Yeah, I thought so, I've had this "discussion" heaps of times, so will then ask the question(for discussions'sake) , why not have all your lures black then- or perhaps with a bit of silver flash?
(A:) Do injured baitfish swim nonstop at 7-8 knots?
Cheers.

But your lure does not represent an injured baitfish. The theroy been that yor lures are preditory fish pursuing bait fish school ( your boat). Set you patterns with this in mind & you will have much more success in nailing your billfish.
Cheers

ahh...I disagree there Odin and as does someone who has a wee bit of success catching billfish over the past 3 seasons.....like over 300 infact.
boat = bait ball I can live with that...
lures = straglers/ injured fish trying to keep up with said bait ball (ie) easy meal!..perhaps the big purple and black lures might be "mistaken' for predators I guess...
that is my theory and I am sticking to it.....I wanna be reincarnated as a fish!
Indeed Martini......but then how could the tackle industry catch anglers?....are all bait fish black and silver?....although I am sure that combo will work just fine when the size and action are also good!?

to continue on from tonights convo at the club Odin, cause I know you like a raaaack up:...
saurie/pilchard/anchovy/squid/flying fish/mackerel etc. coloured and sized lures are supposed to immitate predatory fish species are they?....and your boat is supposed to be a shoal of krill or some such thing?...
At the end of the day there is no right and or wrong here....tis what work for you and what ever it is that you are confident in!
....although that lure you guys got that marlin on yesterday certainly didn't look like your typical bait school terroriser?

Heh heh..Yep. you'd be spot-on there, Kerren. I s'pose its common knowledge that "pretty" lures catch more fisherman than fish!!
As far as the baitfish/predator discussion goes, well, I'll step back from that a bit (till later, or when I've had heaps more wine )There are good points in both sides there, and in reality, both are correct in their assumptions,as Marlin (an apex predator)will eat both; the "baitfish" and the larger predator-skippies etc . Then it gets involved..... Cheers.

Thanks guys
Kerren That lure in Capt A post (G-Spot) isn't quite the same as your Triple 6, Its called Black Ice the only diff is black where yours is blue, I think it will be a good colour here too. Have you had your lure in the water yet?
Capt A So you like that sliced face lure (Venom) why ? (shape, size or colour) maybe you might like one in say Red/Black?
Sure a pretty lure will catch more fishermen than fish,But a pretty lure with the right action will get its share of fish too.(give them time it will happen).
Fishb8 Go get im Roy, If you can would you be able to get a pic of my lures running out the back from the fly brigde (like the one in the latest fishing news) that will look good on my wall.

Talking about the boat been the bait ball, if your lures are the predator fish then why do some fishermen run big lures close to the boat SC/LC and smaller lures in longer positions.(those little fish out the back arn't goner eat the big ones near the boat).
3 season's ago I was fishing at Waihau bay when there were lots of Blue's there, I only had 2 biggame outfits 80w/50w and 2 15's so I thought I would run my biggest lures off the riggers and the small ones on 15's close in for some reason we were getting alot of hits compaired to the other boats fishing the same area. My uncle was on another boat and went days with out any hits when we got talking they were running there big lures in close. I told them what I was doing & the next day they ran there big lures out the back and bingo! they got there Blue.
I got my first marlin that year a 177kg blue on 24, but we lost 6 before we landed that one.
That sort of falls into the area of the lures been predatory fish.
What are your guys veiws on this .Reamember this is out of a small boat 6m might be different in a big boat.

Cheers
Brad

Hi Kerren - No intention of trying to confuse. Full report and observations to come. Garden patch, mostly.
Brad made up several lures for the trip and they all scored. Some have already cemented their place in Addiction's pattern. Skipper and deckie well pleased with them.

Hi Obald - Yes, that was the trip. Started really hot but slowed down the last couple of days. The Garden Patch should be called the Yellowfin capital of NZ as there's heaps. there's still some real biggies left behind!

Hello roy... why did I like that slice faced lure? bECAUSE i HAVE SEEN THE AWESOME ACTION AND SPLASH SLICE FACES MAKE, AND HAVE SEEN PLENTY OF FISH COME IN ON THEM TOO. bUGGER, HIT THE CAPS LOCK, HANG ON.... there, that's better.
So yes, seeing a smallish slice face like that did indeed rouse my curiousity, especially since I have since been told by the owner that it ran like a beaut.
Hey, if you want to donate an example, hell, more than happy to gladly accept... black red overskirt over a hot pink underskirt would do me a teat, that'd be one AWESOME tropical lure too....
cheers now,
Stu.
