just in from Boulder:

"Obald hook up to a stripey off Queen's Buoy - dropped it"

"Hooked up 10mins later"

"Curses - Obald broke the line after two hours on a crazy blue. Fish died and went deep"

bad luck fullahs - go get another one this time on the right side of the ledger balance!

Talking with Dave ( Taggit) about that 1st Blue yesterday.... When it hooked up it charged the Boat.  Most incredible thing any of them had ever seen as the boat roared to 15knts it was still trying to chase them down.. Must have been one hell of an experience ! !

One of the starting line-up of the Kiwi Legend pack mate......Im sure he does because if he didn't you would have heard by now...reason you're not hearing of fish caught on it is none of his lures have hooks in them these days....;)

Obald will fill in the details with a full trip report over the next couple of days, but the sight of a very large Blue with evil intent in it's eyes charging up the wake, leaping out of it like an overgrown dolphin, and chasing the boat was one that I hope I get to see again some time. Going backwards at 7 - 8knts and still watching 700m+ get spun off the spool was also pretty impressive. We have some of that spool emptying on video that we can hopefully put on here as well. I have always been a 24kg type of guy, but after that experience I dug out some fresh 37kg nylon and decided that this might just be a 37kg type of season.
Never thought I would be 'pedal to the metal' running away from a fish. Damn they can swim fast when they are p!$$d off!!!

there are a couple of variations on the same theme Bushie....Legend Lure's - Bleeding Mackerel #1 and #2.....the 1 above is #1 and the one below is #2.....just wasn't sure which one Team Tagit was getting bit on...I'm sure Obald's report will be chocker block with info for the train spotters amongst us....of course I'm not one of those....Wink

so Obie are there 3 x "green/gold" (Bleeding Mackerel) combos as standard in the Lengend Lures range or just variations thereof as customs?.....I knew you weren't getting bit on the Koheru otherwise you would have said so (my personal fav)....I'm pretty sure one of Matt's favorites is the Bleeding Mackerel #2.

perhaps a pictorial lesson for the class wouldn't go a miss?

For the slow learners. I prefer spreading the line with my left hand resting on the foregrip and using my left thumb and forefinger as opposed to the perceived wisdom of putting the left hand on  top of the reel. I couldn't work the rod with my puny arms for longer than a few seconds if I tried - my legs are much more strongerer so I use them. Sharp as a sack of wet moss, eh? If people think this is 'wrong' remind me to start caring.

There is a Bleeding Mackerel which has a pink (or red Wink) and gold inner. I'll invent a Limping Mackerel if you like. And a Constipated Mackerel and a Leukaemic Mackerel...........

There are several Ascensions. Outer the same but different inners. Ascension circa 2008 had the inner like a Pursuit Jellybean. The original and current Ascension (pink/gold inner with lime green lateral line) could be confused for a Punk Bigeye if you held your mouth in the IGFA approved way - but only on Thursdays.

Point? The names are a basis for negotiations, gets us in the ballpark. I've had punters (sorry valued customers) turn a lure down because the inner had the wrong colour lateral line. Doubt fishy is that fussy. Could be wrong.

The Merlin we were running last week was:

Outer: Green/gold glitter with red lateral line
Inner: Green/light green diagonal stripes/silver glitter with red lateral line

I've got heaps of outers but I think the stock of inners might be getting a bit low and that will have to change - a bit. Or maybe a lot depending what I can find down the back of the sofa.

Confused?
