Just spoke to a pretty happy Tongan Terror,he and crew are bringing in a Black Marlin (Blue Marlin at the very least, they have caught blues and are pretty sure it is a Black Marlin) around 250-300kg (it dosnt fit in the boot put it that way.)

First Marlin for Beni,-Well done.Clap

Thats enough from me,I got a pic, but it is his and his crews story,so hopefully they jump on and put some details in.If not I will when I go down later on.

About to be weighed when they get in, in about 3hrs.TGA.

Just spoke to Beni - buzzing is an understatement! Photos to follow no doubt but the gist is: The boys headed out to Mayor Island last night, rigged gear and crashed around 2am.

Up at 6am and out in to 20knts and a big swell which developed further until they called it quits around lunchtime and turned around to head home. Back in to 80ms and the big fish showed on the lure which was promptly dropped back down it's throat and went batshiiite!

Beni set to work and 2 hours later the call was that it had died on them and a 20minute slug fest followed....using the swell and max pressure on their Tiagra 80W lifted the fish inch by inch till it popped up and the boys got to appreciate the impressive black marlin laying beside their gaffs.

The rest is history and the scales pulled down to 375KGs.

i'm sure Beni will be a long to fill in the ample blanks but that is the gist!

Fully excellent result for the entire team......nicely done fullas!!

Dead fish, lifting it off the bottom in weather that is better suited to watching TV - all a young man's game. Good job there are strong young blokes like those in the picture to do it. Well done to the three of them.

Great catch. Wow, a fish of that size seems on a completely different level.

Not surprising to see lure was a "Top Gun -green/glowy lure" (Goadby Witch possibly?) - Top Gun especially in lumo and green colors seem to have a habit of pulling unusually big fish.
