Went for a little tiki tour yesterday out to the 100 mt mark of Taiharuru Bait everywhere and up to 17.8deg green but very clear water lots of gannets working balls of bait sitting in about 5-10 mts with the odd big ball mid water We pulled a couple of tuna and marlin lures but nothing seen Wont be long tho. |

Hi Team,
I think its important to keep the channel 4 reports going, hundreds of us use it to keep informed on the fishing and the local forecasts and sea conditions etc etc......
So to remedy the problem I have started a facebook page called Tutukaka channel 4 reports and asked catchalot to report on here instead.
To get the reports all you need to do is "like" the page, if you want to report or comment yourself I can make you an administrator of the page and you guys and do what you want.

Its a fast, cheap and easy way to share the info with out causing trouble on here

I actually had an account, didn't use it and then the odd person wanted to be-friend me and that was fine, but and this is a huge BUT...I work in a high school and then had 100's of year 13 girls at my school wanting to be-freind me and because I look after the IT systems at the biggest school in Northland I had to get rid of it pronto. Jimmy maybe you could talk to Phantom Deviant - Tomo about a BOI link on your FB site as he always gets to hear the local info of whats happening in the BOI. Maybe BA in Whangaroa. Hope the mods are reading this, I don't think the advertisers/ sponsors would be happy if regular contributors post info away from this site and drag a large portion of members and non to another site that will allow up to the minute action and maybe life saving info on the weather as it is happening. Unfortunately I personally find it depressing that whenever I post something here its always the "photo or it didn't happen" bull$hit response. Dont mean to be the party pooper here but there have been issues regarding this in the past.... Not everyone on the water likes to have there catch and location plastered all over public media sites. I think if people choose to share their information with the masses that is great as it is very valuable to all those wanting to get out there knowing where the fish are and what has been caught and dont get me wrong there are plenty of people who do including myself sometimes, however if people choose not to share that is also their choice. Despite popular belief anything heard over the VHF is not PUBLIC information.... and covered by the Secrecy of Corrospondence in the MNZ radio handbook and anyone with an MROC radio operators license would have signed a bit of paper to say that they agree to this.... It is outlined in the book as below: Please dont start shooting the messenger here but purely laying out the facts Secrecy of correspondence Any person who receives information not intended for them shall not disclose or make use of that information or disclose the existence of the transmission unless they are specifically authorised to do so. |

This is ridiculous. As KB rightly states I don't think the advertisers on this site will wish to see people move to Facebook. I suggest that could be a slippery slide for the site as a whole. This all started over nothing except some fisho's ego's getting bruised through misreporting by Cacthelot - whoopee he made a mistake and now it's been completely blown out of proportion. Just report it on here Al - I, and I am sure the majority of others find it far easier.

Just to pick up on your points W U 2 - and to clarify a few points as far as this site is concerned .
There is no problem posting general updates about catches, where the fish are and/or any other information that relates to safety, weather etc as it's in the general interest of forum members - irrespective of the source of that information. Personal information or updates that relate to people you know, where you are sure they would give approval for that info to be made public are fine too.
Regarding the area gamefishing threads, they all operate on the same basis which is as follows:
Seasonal variations are significant and what was relevant last year and the year before isn't likely to be particularly relevant to the current season hence a new thread is started each season for our main areas.
Importantly though, the previous years are still there if anyone wants to review them and look for patterns or specific information. The Toots Channel 4 thread for this season is this one albeit with a name that fits in with the rest of the area threads but it can be called whatever you like.
Hopefully we can build on what we've done to date and my mission is purely to provide the platform for everyone to build their fishing knowledge and get more out of their time on the water or out fishing. ------------- Online... |

Al knows that keeping in line with the above guidelines is fine Paul.
Information can come from a variety of sources and devices as we know (websites, txt, vhf old-fashioned phone calls etc) so the idea of an area update is exactly that, i.e: keeping others informed with information you can share is exactly why these area threads were developed.
There is no problem as far as I'm concerned with sharing general, useful information irrespective of the source.
e.g: If I posted - "3 marlin caught today just north of the Kumuara patch on Diversity" that's perfectly fine as I know Damo would be happy with that.
Posting catches and giving details about the angler/boat etc where that that person is known to you and you are confident they would be happy with it is also fine as far as the site is concerned.
Posting personal info from a VHF broadcast where you don't know that person & they take exception to you doing so, quite reasonably and maybe legally, could be a problem for the person posting the info. ------------- Online... |

Ok..... seems that I have got the wrong end of the stick on what had happened "Catchelots" Thread and why. Now that some light has been shed on the matter and a nice sleep overnight it is plain to see that there has never been any real problem with the "general" information that had been supplied via the Toots CH 4 Live updates. There never was ! so I reckon we need to have a wee think about this :- I for one have fallen into the following category ! - It is so easy for us to get so use to hearing radio banter while we are out at sea to that we forget that transmissions on the airways are indeed "private" ( Intended for the two persons communicating ) and I think we do need to remember that it’s not our right to make that info public and at the end of the day 'THAT IS THE LAW'. As much as we can all sit back and ask "Well what harm has it Done " which in most cases it could justifiably be said that " There was no harm done " we still have obligations and that's why it was specifically requested that some guidelines be adhered to if the reporting was to continue. It was all pretty basic really
This guys wife who has now heard through the grapevine that the husband , "who was meant to be delivering his boat to Whangaroa by himself" has some young BIMBO on board and has just caught a marlin AND is rightly spewing great volumes of Self-righteousness at the Husband who is now quite rightly vomiting on the CH 4 Update ! ! Its all pretty easy really and not much of a diversion from what was originally being supplied with the exception of respecting privacy when we need to and using a bit of common sense! Just something to think about as if a formal complaint was made to Maritime New Zealand then it doesn't matter whether it was this site or the Facebook site, then it WOULD be closed down and the providers of the information would be in deep DO DOOOO. ! Here is some legal advice that a friend has advised me on; From the Radiocommunications Act 1989: 133A Offence to disclose contents of
radiocommunications ·
(1) Every person commits an offence against this Act
who receives a radiocommunication and who, knowing that the radiocommunication
was not intended for that person,— o
(a) makes use of the radiocommunication or any
information derived from that radiocommunication; or o
(b) reproduces or causes or permits to be reproduced
the radiocommunication or information derived from that radiocommunication; or o
(c) discloses the existence of the radiocommunication. 2. So radio communications are not just deemed to be
public domain from the beginning. 3. "[O]r any information derived from that
radiocommunication" would completely deny any use in compilation reports,
or anyone on the water deriving their own conclusions from keeping a listening
watch on any channel. And we all do this all the time. So there is
a mismatch between the strict statute law and practice. 4. However, forming your own conclusions and reporting
trends from aggregating all the news from all the transmissions is so wide it'd
be hard for any individual person to claim their own radiocomms had been used. 5. Now, I don't know how the reports in question are
phrased, or whether they refer to individual boats {ha ha ha - initially typoed
this as "boasts"] and transmissions. If referring to individual
transmission by particular boats/operators, then in my opinion, yes, you need
their permission - or at least their acknowledgement that the transmission was
intended for you among others - to comply with s133A(1). 6. Whether anyone would actually sue you, or what damages might flow, is another question. The immediate question is that "commits an offence" means that this is a criminal matter and could be prosecuted as such by police or other government enforcement agency.

Thanks for that. As I noted above, we get info from a variety of sources and provided, as you say Alan, a mature and common sense approach to this is adopted, then we can consider this topic brought to a very reasonable conclusion. On Kezza's point, here's the update on the ability to post to these forums on mobile devices from our tech team.
Posting in these Forums from mobile devices
Currently you can post text thru a browser but not load images so we need to build a specific app to do that as there isn't any likelihood of the forum software providing that functionality in the near future. The lads are currently working on a new template that will dynamically respond to the particular device and display an optimised version. What this means is that we’ll have a different view for the mobile compared to the desktop version so that will improve mobile usability, speed etc.
Software development
There's a number of improvements in the next version for mobile device support. For example we’re testing an update at the moment that adds support in the WYSIWYG Post Editor for the desktop version of Firefox 17 as well as support for Firefox Mobile and Opera Mini on Google Android. YouTube video support has been updated to use the newer IFrame format from YouTube to improve support for YouTube Videos in mobile devices. Would be happy to hear from anyone who would be interested in working with us on IOS &/or android app dev to kick off a simple phase 1 of this. In the interim I'll look at options that could integrate facebook and follow up Kezza's idea with him directly. ------------- Online... |

I know that Sanfords got 40-50 tonne of skippies at the back of the Knights a week or so ago, all in the 4-5 kg range.
The other thing my source told me was that forget about the skippy schools concentrate on the jack mackeral schools, that is where you will find the stripey's, and I agree with him on that. Eric, no just the normal jack mackeral schools the marlin ball up into meat balls. The Chile/Peruvian mackeral schools I have never seen during the game season, always seen them down here in the BOP during the off season. Last season in late February there were jack mackeral schools everywhere up off the top end of Mayor Island and the stripey's were there in numbers too, the one we got had close to 30 jackies in it and it still ate a live skippy, When we hooked this fish there were several other meat balls on the surface with marlin everywhere and we were the only boat there. The problem was there were only a couple of nice days of weather then it turned to custard and by the time it calmed down again they were gone. ------------- http://www.legasea.co.nz" rel="nofollow">

| Went for a look out off Tuts yesterday. Best temperature was off the South end in 140 – 160 a nice temp rise of about .3 then went cold as I headed North. Warmed up again over the Kumera patch but this might have also been just daytime warming. One only horse skippy in 160 off the South end. Went back around to try and get another but no. I only went as wide as 170m. See other report for my Mako |

About 10 years ago there were big schools of Peruvian mackeral off North Cape area in mid-summer - the marlin seemed to want lure with lots of gold. I loaned a blue top, gold belly to a game boat and they got heaps on it... I've never caught anything with it! ------------- Be yourself; everyone else is already taken |

We did a few miles today. Dropped the lures at the KP where tem this morning was 19.3. Did a few laps before heading to the trench then out to 320 north a bit and into 240 where one of the local boats had a shot earlier on. Back out to 300 and then back through KKP where we pulled the gear to change plans for tomorrow. Best temp was 20.8, appeared afternoon temps were about 1-1.5 higher then same bits of water in the morning. Water was a bit green as well. One xlarge skippie in 200m where there were a couple of them, one small alby at the KP and a friggin spiny dog at the trench which got me Think I will leave it for some more favourable news before heading back up again

yes we did tag one today between the knights and chicks was my father inlaws first so he was stoked few browny points there. was in 160m on a marlinstar lure black over yellow/green. |
