Hi all.
First time catching one of these.
Am I correct in assuming this is a Goat fish?
Small bugger unfortunately caught on a fall jig.
Apologies for the quality of the picture.
Have searched the net and found a couple of pictures that look close, so I thought I would use the real-life knowledge available on this site. 👍

Did it have barbels under it's lower jaw V8?  It looks like a goat fish to me but hard to tell from the angle.
Best gurnard fisherman in my street

As above, almost certainly a goat fish, but hard to be 100% without seeing the barbels. They do take jigs occasionally and good eating.

This one was a little too small for eating.

I agree MB, we get the occasional one over here and the larger specimens eat well.

Yeah, looks like a goat fish to me.  (they are pretty easy to spear if you want more)

Yes, goat fish.  They are very good eating - we prefer them to snapper for sure.  I seem to remember they are quite slow growing (Lethal posted on this form 20 odd years ago with info?) but they are not under threat.

That one is too small though by the looks of it
