Well I had a good season but did not catch any thing to speak of. I wondered what I was doing wrong, was it the lures, boat, speed, weather, colour of water, sunshine, or lack off, wind, too much or too little, where I was fishing or if my mate was wearing the correct undies. Well that was the best excuses I could muster for my bad fishing.

To try and get the best out of Marlin and big game fishing you have to be in the right place, right time with the best gear you can. If you do not have what it takes it’s hard, therefore I am going to put up a challenge to all those who wish to partake in listing their 10 top lure.

Some years ago several lure makers in the USA got together and after discussion they listed their top 10 picks.

The next is a pick from a few years ago so if you look back you can see if your minds have changed.

I was wanting New Zealand fisherman to put up there version of the top 10 Lures for the 2010 season to come. After the season has been completed we can calculate what has been caught and relate to what we all thought will be the best lures and even the best fisherman can learn by some others gain.

Therefore I am asking you all to list in preference from 1 to 10, if you want to add a picture of them all from left (1) to right (10).

Listing the position you would run each lure.

Listing what time of the day (if there is a preference) and what colour you would run.

Listing how many lures you run.

Here’s a few to choose from, lets see how many of these you all choose.

Pakula, Joe Yee, Black Magic, Boone, Legend, Broadbill, Bonze, Blue Dog, Jc’s , Red Gill, Marlin Magic, Yo-zuri, Black Bart, Zuker’s, Graham Dowsing, Williamson, Pacific, Sea Tal, Mold Craft, IIlander, Copa, Bob Schneider, Makaira, Gary Yamamoto, Hooker, Sadu, Murray Bros, Seven Strand, Big T, Hollow Point, Catch-a-lot, Alan Jorian, Top Gun, Shi Bite, Trophy, Meridian, Peter Montague, Hatteras, Multi Strike, Hawaiian Sea Lures.

Here’s a few head shapes to add to the list to think about, Pusher, Slope, Kona-Scooped, Bullet, Plunger, Flat, Tube, Jet.

Now add the colour and you got the mix.

I am sure that you all know that the different lure makers name there own lures with different names for the different shapes that’s what it makes it the most awkward to work out the best.

I am sure I have left out your favourite brand, but please add it to your pick.
