The plan is to go on a camping trip somewhere on the east coast north of auckland.

And thats where the ideas run dry... Prerequisites are needs to be very fishy, within paddling distance of campsite.

Target species Snapper, Kingfish

Any hints and or tips would be appreciated

Cheers, lost westcoaster

In my opinion there's only one choice - Cape Karikari. Stay at either the Whatuwhiwhi Top 10 Holiday Park (Harris and Janette are totally kayak fishing friendly) or the DOC camp at Matai Bay itself. Top 10 have fantastic facilities including excellent showers and a proper fish cleaning station and freezers. The DOC camp is nicely maintained but has the typical basic facilities. The fishing is fantastic and there are multiple launch options ranging from almost out of the front of your tent to less than 15 minutes drive if wind directions change. I consider this a kayak anglers "must do".

What about the top of Coro, camping at Fantail, PJ, Stoney bay and Waikauwau, lotsa options if the wind changes and lotsa fishy territory.
I waste most of my money on fishing tackle. The rest I invest in women and booze.
