Were the hooks made of #8 wire ski? I'd think that anything less would be sacrilege

Did you see any pic's of the said lure attached to the fish? Were they black & white?

Uncle, sorry, but my asparagus does not make a great marlin lure, not having the tassle-ey bit trailing behind, BUT! I does indeed make a superb tuna bullet. Indeed, Cedar plugs were 1st invented by the ancient romans as bluefin tuna lures duplicating the even older etruscan trick of using large asparagus spear with forged bronze hooks threaded thru them .
Should anyone wish to try my specially hand selected Jumbo grade Tuna lure size asparagus spears, please let uncle know, as I am sending him a consignment of them for him to encase in epoxy, rig up and then sell on to those select few "In-the-know" fishermen around the world that we have told about this lethal secret lure.

Thinking about the corn cobs ski, were they cooked? Could make a huge difference.
I also wonder if the same guy ever tried trolling bananas, now there's an action packed fruit.
On a similar tack, I once caught a 6lb Tench from a local lake using a Daisy flower as bait . Just tried it out of shere boredom on a slow day.
