...I would say both parties have got a good deal!...Most of last seasons shows were filmed on Primetime and you will only see Shimano products on board the good ship!

but Graeme, like Kerren said was with Primetime and when you are payed by someone else and then use the opp's products wouldnt you get upset...alls fear in love and fishing....and anyway i have used both products and they both have there good points and bad.....the real truth is how much love and care you are willing to give to them....and that has a lot to do with there performance down the track....i did reel repairs for Penn and you would not believe the state of some reels the public sent into be fixed, most have no idea how to look after them give them a blast with the hose if it is lucky then into the shed to corode up...we would also recieve Shimanos as well sent to the wrong company to be repaired by the tackle shops internally the are much the same, both copy each other in some instances they copied the old Ryobi reels and some Daiwa its now down to who is willing to drop there price the most to get the sale..........

The way I see it is .... brand loyalty is for those who get paid to promote a product. I will buy whatever I like at the time.
I have three Penn reels and they are great, not as smooth as a TLD but pretty bullet proof. Im so tight that my gear has to last and I gave up buying cheapies long ago. Truth is they all make some good stuff and they all make some lemons. I have owned a couple of Penn rods and found them to be less than flash. Certainly lack the bullet proofness of some of their reels.
From what I have heard some Shimano rods are a little over rated too. There's no doubting that reels like the TLD's and BTR6500's are a quality product but of course without care they all die early.
Diawa make some pretty good stuff too, just depends how much you want to spend. Some reels a way too pretty for me, but I would still like something flash for special occassions....
Too true fella's, we all know if we get paid we all do the job. Graeme Im sure had no arguements on the $$ offered. Another good point there Smudge is each to his own, we buy what we like.
Im curious as to see if Shimano will bring out a Calcutter lever drag to match the Penn 975LD as these two Companies bang heads, also im a bit nosey at times, so Lethal did Penn do you any deals as Ive seen you use them on T.V ?. Tell me off if im being to bloody nosey mate, why i'll pay ya 6 snapper heads if you tell the folks I can catch big fish, hehehe. SQUID.
you guys understand its a way of life now...promoting products is big busniess and tax deductable...i worked for Penn for 13years and they also sell Ryobi, Javis Walker and Butterworth these all come out off the same factory now in China...,but if you look now at the bottom of the rods on most makes you will see they nearly all come from China...they now have the technology to make rods that won't break and the actions to suit nz conditions....these are great value for money....what you pay for now is the components that are used to make up the rod better products on the blank cost more underbinding guides fuji reel seats shaped eva alli gimbles and affco guides all add up to a dearier rod....and for me i was allowed to keep the first samples of the ones i designed....and any new reels i got to take them out and test them...so yea lifes been a beach when it comes to fishing...
yep ive got penn and shimano, the penn combo rods are crap, got three in the shed all the eyes falling out.
i inox my reels every time i go fishing, they seem to keep well.
just bought a peen 555, spooled it with twenty four kilo, its my rock set, tested it up north last week, seems pretty solid, casts well considering 24 kg.
got a 15 pound trev on it at cape maria, seemed pretty smooth, sh*t those big trevs can fight!!!!
looks like it could be a good jigging reel too.

Did notice that Gone Fishin' have been showing lots of Shimano gold of late.
I guess for that sort of money, a handful of t-shirts, caps and a pile of new reels???? I wouldn't have to think twice.
Now here's the interesting bit�.all those Penn goodies must be clogging up the Sinclair garage and gathering dust currently.

tamure you are right most sets are made up so a price can be reached....cheep components to still get a margin....i use the penn sabre rods they are all my design....for my type of fishing and proberly yours to, soft tips and extra strong butts, with all the best components...not many left out there though.........those trev's are great fun allright....the 555 has another set of gears you can purchase for around 49-95 to change down to a 5-1 from you 6-1 if you need just raw power to pull those bigger fish in...if the drag ever gets lumpy the cause is water has got into the washers...

I know Billy Ho swapped from Okuma to Daiwa because Okuma dropped their long-time distributor for another one, in a way that left bill feeling he was unable to in all good conscience to continue to support them. Then Diawa was happy to support Bill, so the decidion was easily made.
As for Graeme Sinclair going to Shimano, welllll.... money talks i guess. Personally, give me Penn any old time!

no mate but i still call in, and get all the lastest gose...i have a $tab there and they still get me to try out there new gear....going to pick up a new Graphite 50wide 2speed next week to try out...there are only 5 in NZ at the moment and they are samples only....should be on the market next season if all go's well...so keep that one to yourself.........im still fishing the Furuno with Jeff but its only a one day serious the rest is all filming..........
